JEE Main 2027: Exam Date, Eligibility, Syllabus, Pattern, Application Form, Fees, Cutoff & More
Last Updated: September 8, 2026
Quick status check: As of this update, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet released the official JEE Main 2027 notification, information bulletin, exam dates, or application form. Based on the release pattern of JEE Main 2025 and JEE Main 2026 (both released in the last week of October), the JEE Main 2027 notification is expected around the last week of October 2026. Every date, fee figure, and rule below that relates to 2027 specifically is marked as expected unless NTA has officially confirmed it. Where the official 2027 bulletin is not yet out, this article uses the confirmed JEE Main 2026 information (the most recently completed cycle) as the most reliable reference point, and it will be updated the moment NTA releases the 2027 details.
JEE Main is the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), a national-level computer-based entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate engineering, architecture, and planning programmes across India. It is the gateway to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and it is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which decides admission to the IITs.
Every year, more than a million students appear for JEE Main across two sessions — one in January and one in April — making it one of the largest and most competitive entrance exams in the country. If you are a Class 12 student targeting engineering admission in 2027, or a dropper attempting the exam again, this guide covers everything currently known and officially confirmed about JEE Main 2027, along with the most recent (JEE Main 2026) figures to help you plan while the official 2027 bulletin is awaited.

Eligibility Criteria
NTA has not released eligibility criteria specific to JEE Main 2027. Based on the criteria applied for JEE Main 2025 and 2026, and assuming no change is announced, the following conditions are expected to apply. Always cross-check with the official 2027 information bulletin once released.
Educational Qualification
- For B.E./B.Tech (Paper 1): Candidates must have passed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology or a Technical Vocational subject as the third subject.
- For B.Arch (Paper 2A): Class 12 with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, along with a minimum aggregate as prescribed in the bulletin (historically 50% aggregate in Class 12, including Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry).
- For B.Planning (Paper 2B): Class 12 with Mathematics as a compulsory subject.
Year of Passing (Qualifying Years)
Historically, NTA allows candidates who passed Class 12 in the two years immediately preceding the exam year, plus those appearing in the current year, to apply. Applying this pattern to 2027:
- Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026
- Candidates who are appearing for Class 12 in 2027
Candidates who passed Class 12 before 2025 would not be eligible under this pattern, unless NTA announces a change.
Minimum Marks / Percentage
- For appearing in JEE Main itself, NTA has not enforced a minimum Class 12 percentage in recent years (2025 and 2026 bulletins removed this requirement for appearing in the exam).
- A 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST), or a rank within the top 20 percentile of the respective board, has historically been required for admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs through JoSAA — this is an admission-stage requirement, separate from exam eligibility. NTA/JoSAA will confirm whether this rule continues for 2027 admissions.
Age Limit
There is no upper age limit to appear for JEE Main, as per the rules followed in 2025 and 2026. This is expected to remain unchanged for 2027, but the official bulletin will confirm it.
Number of Attempts
Based on the current rule:
- A candidate can attempt JEE Main for three consecutive years from the year of first passing Class 12.
- Since JEE Main is held in two sessions each year, this effectively allows up to six attempts across those three years (two sessions per year).
- Example: a student passing Class 12 in 2027 would be eligible to attempt JEE Main in 2027, 2028, and 2029 (subject to NTA not changing this rule).
Nationality and Domicile
Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals are generally eligible to appear for JEE Main. Seat-sharing quotas (Home State/Other State) for NIT admissions depend on the candidate’s domicile state, which is determined by where the candidate passed Class 10 and Class 12 — the exact domicile rules for 2027 admissions will be confirmed by JoSAA.
Reserved Categories and PwD Candidates
Reservation benefits (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwD) apply as per Government of India norms during both the exam application (fee concession) and admission/counselling stage (seat reservation). Category certificates must be valid as per the format prescribed in the official bulletin. The official authority has not announced whether reservation percentages will change for 2027; the existing statutory percentages (SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC-NCL 27%, EWS 10%, PwD horizontal 5%) are expected to continue.
Droppers and Gap-Year Candidates
Students who have taken a gap year after passing Class 12 remain eligible as long as they fall within the three-consecutive-year attempt window described above.

Correction Window
NTA typically opens a one-time correction window after registration closes, allowing candidates to edit most fields (a few, like category, may have restrictions). Some corrections carry an additional fee, while others are usually free — the 2027 bulletin will confirm this.
If Payment Fails
If the fee payment fails after debit from the candidate’s account, the amount is generally refunded automatically to the source account within a few working days, as per NTA’s standard refund policy. Candidates should retain the transaction reference number and can raise a grievance through the NTA helpdesk if the refund is delayed.
Application Fee
NTA has not released the JEE Main 2027 fee structure. The table below shows the JEE Main 2026 fee structure as the most recent official reference.
| Category | Fee (India centres, Paper 1 or 2A/2B only) — 2026 | Fee (Outside India) — 2026 |
| General / Gen-EWS (Male) | ₹1,000 (Gen); ₹900 (Gen-EWS) | Higher, as specified in bulletin |
| General / Gen-EWS (Female) | ₹800 | Higher, as specified in bulletin |
| OBC-NCL (Male) | ₹900 | Higher, as specified in bulletin |
| OBC-NCL (Female) | ₹800 | Higher, as specified in bulletin |
| SC / ST / PwD (All genders) | ₹500 | Higher, as specified in bulletin |

Note: Candidates applying for both Paper 1 and Paper 2A/2B together pay a combined, higher fee, as specified in the official bulletin. A processing fee plus applicable GST is added at the payment gateway stage over and above the base fee shown above. The official authority has not announced the JEE Main 2027 fee. Do not pay any amount to third-party websites claiming to process JEE Main fees — payment must only be made on the official NTA portal.
Payment Methods
Net banking, debit card, credit card, UPI, and digital wallets are accepted, as per recent cycles. Gateway/transaction charges, where applicable, are non-refundable even if the main application fee is refunded due to a duplicate or failed transaction.
Exam Pattern
NTA has not released the JEE Main 2027 exam pattern. The table below reflects the JEE Main 2026 pattern, which is expected to be substantially similar unless NTA announces changes.
Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech)
| Particular | Details (JEE Main 2026 pattern) |
| Mode | Computer-Based Test (CBT) |
| Duration | 3 hours (extended for eligible PwD candidates) |
| Sections | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics |
| Questions per Section | 25 (20 MCQs in Section A + 5 Numerical Value Questions in Section B) |
| Total Questions | 75 (all compulsory — no optional questions in Section B, unlike the pandemic-era pattern) |
| Total Marks | 300 |
| Marking (Section A – MCQ) | +4 for correct, −1 for incorrect |
| Marking (Section B – Numerical) | +4 for correct; check the official bulletin each year for whether negative marking applies to this section, as this detail has varied across recent cycles |
| Unattempted Question | 0 marks |
| Language | English, Hindi, and 11 regional languages (choice made during application) |
Paper 2A (B.Arch)
| Particular | Details (JEE Main 2026 pattern) |
| Sections | Mathematics (Part I), Aptitude Test (Part II), Drawing Test (Part III) |
| Mathematics | 20 MCQs + 5 Numerical Value Questions (25 questions, compulsory) |
| Aptitude Test | 50 MCQs |
| Drawing Test | 2 questions, offline pen-and-paper, evaluated for proportion, perspective, and design sense |
| Total Marks | 400 |
| Marking | +4 correct, −1 incorrect for MCQs; Drawing Test evaluated separately (no fixed per-question negative marking) |
Paper 2B (B.Planning)
| Particular | Details (JEE Main 2026 pattern) |
| Sections | Mathematics (Part I), Aptitude Test (Part II), Planning-Based Questions (Part III) |
| Mode | Fully computer-based (unlike Paper 2A’s drawing component) |
| Total Questions | 100 (approx., per recent bulletins) |
| Marking | +4 correct, −1 incorrect (MCQs); recent cycles have applied negative marking uniformly across this paper |
Example: How Marks Are Calculated (Paper 1)
If a candidate attempts 60 of 75 questions in Paper 1 and gets 50 correct and 10 incorrect (15 left unattempted):
- Correct: 50 × 4 = 200 marks
- Incorrect: 10 × (−1) = −10 marks
- Unattempted: 15 × 0 = 0 marks
- Total Score = 200 − 10 = 190 out of 300
This is illustrative only — the exact marking scheme for 2027 will be confirmed in the official bulletin.
Complete Syllabus
The official JEE Main 2027 syllabus has not been released. NTA typically publishes the syllabus along with the information bulletin. Subject-Wise Analysis (Based on Recent-Year Trends)
The following is a historical trend analysis based on past JEE Main papers and is not an official prediction for 2027.
Physics
- High-weightage areas: Mechanics, Electrostatics and Current Electricity, Modern Physics
- Difficulty level: Moderate to high; often the most time-consuming section due to conceptual and calculation-heavy questions
- Trend: Increasing focus on application-based and multi-concept questions rather than direct formula recall
Chemistry
- High-weightage areas: Physical Chemistry (especially Equilibrium and Thermodynamics), Coordination Compounds, Organic Reaction Mechanisms
- Difficulty level: Generally considered the most scoring section if NCERT is thoroughly covered
- Trend: A large share of questions is directly NCERT-based, especially in Inorganic Chemistry
Mathematics
- High-weightage areas: Calculus (Limits, Continuity, Integration), Coordinate Geometry, Algebra
- Difficulty level: Often the most time-consuming section due to lengthy calculations
- Trend: Increasing number of multi-step, application-based numerical value questions
[Internal Link: Previous Year Question Papers]
Previous Year Analysis
| Aspect | Recent-Year Observation |
| Overall difficulty | Session-to-session variation is common; Mathematics has often been reported as more time-consuming than Physics or Chemistry |
| Pattern changes | Optional questions in Section B were removed starting 2025, making all 25 questions per subject compulsory |
| Marking changes | Negative marking rules for numerical-value questions have varied across recent cycles — always check the specific year’s bulletin |
| Normalisation | Because the exam runs across multiple shifts with different question sets, NTA uses a percentile-based normalisation to ensure fairness across shifts |
These are general historical observations, not official NTA statements, and should not be used to predict the exact difficulty of JEE Main 2027.
Cut-Off
There are two distinct types of “cutoff” for JEE Main, and confusing them is one of the most common mistakes students make:
- Qualifying Cutoff: The minimum category-wise percentile a candidate needs to be eligible for JEE Advanced. This is released by NTA along with the final result.
- Admission/Closing Cutoff: The actual opening and closing All India Rank for a specific institute, branch, category, and quota, released round-wise by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) during counselling. This is a completely separate figure from the qualifying cutoff and is always much higher (i.e., a much better rank is needed) for competitive branches and institutes.
JEE Main Qualifying Cutoff — Recent Years (Official, for JEE Advanced Eligibility)
| Category | 2024 | 2025 | 2026 |
| General | 93.2362181 | 93.1023262 | 93.4123549 |
| EWS | — | — | 81.3209571 |
| OBC-NCL | — | — | 80.9232583 |
| SC | — | — | Above 60 (recent trend) |
| ST | — | — | Above 52 (recent trend) |
These are the officially declared qualifying percentiles for the years shown. The JEE Main 2027 qualifying cutoff has not been announced and cannot be predicted with certainty — it will depend on the number of candidates, paper difficulty, and NTA’s normalisation for that specific year. Never treat any “expected cutoff” figure from a third-party website as official.
Important distinction: Clearing the qualifying cutoff only makes a candidate eligible to appear for JEE Advanced and participate in JoSAA counselling for NITs/IIITs/GFTIs. It does not guarantee a seat — actual admission depends entirely on the candidate’s All India Rank relative to JoSAA’s institute- and branch-wise closing ranks for that year.
Marks, Score, Percentile and Rank
- Raw Marks: The actual score obtained based on the marking scheme (out of 300 for Paper 1).
- Normalisation: Since JEE Main is held across multiple shifts with different question papers, NTA does not use raw marks directly for ranking. Instead, it calculates a percentile score for each shift, which accounts for relative difficulty across shifts.
- Percentile: Indicates the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or below a candidate in that particular shift — it is not the same as “percentage of marks.”
- NTA Score/Percentile: Used to determine the All India Rank (AIR) after combining Session 1 and Session 2 scores (the better of the two normalised scores is considered for candidates who appear in both sessions).
- All India Rank (AIR): The overall rank based on the combined percentile score across all categories.
- Category Rank: A separate rank calculated within each reservation category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD).
- Tie-Breaking: When multiple candidates have the same percentile, NTA applies a pre-defined tie-breaking method (such as comparing subject-wise percentiles in Mathematics, then Physics, then Chemistry, followed by fewer incorrect attempts) as specified in the official bulletin for that year.
Admit Card
The JEE Main 2027 admit card has not been released — it will not be issued until after registration and the correction window close, and typically only a few days before each exam date/shift. Based on the process followed in recent cycles, the admit card process generally involves:
- Login to jeemain.nta.nic.in using application number and password/date of birth.
- Download the admit card once released (usually available roughly 2–4 days before the exam date).
- Check all printed details carefully — name, photograph, signature, exam date, shift timing, reporting time, and exam centre address.
- Report to the centre well before the reporting time mentioned; gates typically close before the exam start time, and candidates arriving after that cutoff are usually not permitted entry.
- Carry the required original photo ID proof exactly as specified on the admit card.
- If any printed detail is incorrect, contact the NTA helpdesk immediately through the channel specified on the admit card/website — do not wait until exam day.
Exam-Day Guidelines
Carry These
- Printed admit card (with photograph clearly visible)
- One original, valid photo ID proof (as specified in the bulletin — typically Aadhaar card, school ID, passport, or similar)
- A recent passport-size photograph, if specified in the admit card instructions
- Any PwD certification or scribe-related documentation, if applicable
Do Not Carry
- Mobile phones, smartwatches, or any electronic gadgets
- Calculators, log tables, or electronic devices for calculation
- Textbooks, notes, or any printed/written material
- Bags, wallets, or pouches beyond what is permitted
- Any metallic item (as per the frisking/security protocol followed at CBT centres)
Exact restrictions for 2027 will be confirmed in the official admit card instructions — the list above reflects the guidelines followed in recent cycles.
Answer Key
NTA typically follows this process for the answer key, based on recent cycles:
- Provisional Answer Key: Released online along with recorded question papers and response sheets a few days after each session.
- Challenge Window: Candidates can raise objections against the provisional key within a specified window, usually by paying a per-question challenge fee (recent cycles have used a fee in the range of ₹200 per question challenged, refundable if the challenge is accepted).
- Refund of Challenge Fee: If a candidate’s challenge is accepted, the fee is generally refunded; if rejected, it is typically forfeited.
- Final Answer Key: Released after expert review of all challenges, and used to compute the final result — no further objections are entertained after this stage.
Exact dates, fee amount, and process for JEE Main 2027 have not been announced and will be confirmed in the official bulletin/notice closer to each session.
Result
- The result is declared on the official NTA website; candidates log in using their application number and date of birth/password.
- The scorecard shows raw marks (where applicable), the normalised NTA score/percentile, and the All India Rank.
- Category-wise rank and the qualifying status for JEE Advanced (where applicable) are also shown.
- In case of a tie in percentile, the tie-breaking criteria specified in that year’s official bulletin apply.
- NTA does not offer re-evaluation or rechecking of the CBT-based result, since the exam is computer-evaluated; however, candidates can raise concerns during the answer-key challenge stage.
Counselling / Admission (JoSAA)
Admission to NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs based on JEE Main scores is conducted through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), followed by CSAB for certain special/leftover rounds. Based on the process followed in recent years:
- Registration: Candidates register separately on the JoSAA portal after the final JEE Main result (and, for IIT aspirants, after the JEE Advanced result).
- Choice Filling: Candidates fill and rank their preferred institute-branch combinations.
- Choice Locking: Choices must be locked before the deadline for each round; unlocked choices may not be considered.
- Seat Allotment: Based on rank, category, and choices filled, seats are allotted round-wise.
- Response Options: Allotted candidates choose to Freeze (accept and exit further rounds), Float (accept but remain in the running for a better option), or Slide (stay within the same institute but seek a better branch).
- Document Verification: Allotted candidates must complete online/offline document verification within the specified window.
- Reporting and Fee Payment: Candidates pay the requisite admission/seat acceptance fee and report as instructed.
- Multiple Rounds: JoSAA conducts several rounds; unfilled seats after the last round may go to CSAB special rounds.
JoSAA counselling schedule for 2027 admissions has not been announced. It typically begins a few weeks after the JEE Advanced result, usually in June.

Reservation
Based on Government of India norms followed in recent cycles, the following reservation categories apply to both fee concessions (application stage) and seat reservation (admission stage):
| Category | Reservation (as per recent years) |
| SC | 15% |
| ST | 7.5% |
| OBC-NCL | 27% |
| EWS | 10% |
| PwD (horizontal, within each category) | 5% |
Category certificates (caste certificate, EWS certificate, UDID/PwD certificate) must be valid and in the format specified by the conducting/counselling authority. Any change to these percentages for the 2027 cycle has not been announced and would only take effect if formally notified by the competent government authority.
Colleges / Institutes / Courses
JEE Main scores are used for admission to:
- 31 NITs across India
- 26 IIITs
- Several GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes)
- Numerous state-level and private engineering colleges that accept JEE Main scores independently of JoSAA
Popular branches include Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Civil Engineering, among others. Exact seat matrices, branch-wise seats, and closing ranks for 2027 admissions have not been released — these are published by JoSAA closer to the counselling process each year, based on that year’s approved seat matrix.
Fees, Scholarships and Financial Information
- Tuition and hostel fees at NITs/IIITs vary by institute and are revised periodically by the respective institute/Ministry of Education — always check the specific institute’s latest fee notification.
- Fee waivers: SC/ST candidates and, in many institutes, candidates from economically weaker sections have historically been eligible for full or partial tuition fee waivers, subject to income criteria.
- Scholarships: Central and state government scholarship schemes, as well as institute-specific merit-cum-means scholarships, are available — details vary by institute and are announced separately from the JEE Main process.
- Refunds: Seat withdrawal and refund rules during JoSAA counselling are announced by JoSAA each year and generally follow a sliding scale based on the round of withdrawal.
Preparation Strategy
This is general study-planning guidance, not official exam information, and should be adapted to your own strengths and schedule.
12-Month Strategy
Build strong NCERT-level conceptual foundations across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics before moving to advanced problem sets. Cover the full syllabus at least once with regular chapter-end tests.
6-Month Strategy
Focus on completing any remaining syllabus portions, begin solving previous years’ JEE Main papers subject-wise, and start identifying weak chapters through regular mock tests.
3-Month Strategy
Shift primarily to full-length mock tests under timed conditions, with detailed error analysis after each attempt. Revise formula sheets and short notes for quick recall.
1-Month Strategy
Prioritize revision over new learning. Attempt at least one full mock test every 2–3 days, and focus specifically on topics with historically high weightage (see the subject-wise analysis section above).
Last 7 Days
Avoid starting new topics. Revise formula sheets, common mistakes, and previous years’ questions. Ensure all admit card and logistics preparations (ID proof, exam city, reporting time) are finalized well in advance.
Exam-Day Strategy
Attempt the section you are most confident in first to build momentum. Avoid guesswork on MCQs with negative marking unless you can eliminate at least two options confidently. For numerical-value questions, double-check calculations before finalizing an answer, since partial credit is not given.

Books and Study Material
- NCERT Textbooks (Class 11 & 12): The foundation for a large share of Chemistry questions and conceptual Physics/Mathematics questions.
- Previous Years’ JEE Main Papers: Essential for understanding the actual difficulty level and question style — far more useful than guessing difficulty from any single coaching institute’s material.
- Standard Reference Books: Widely used titles include H.C. Verma for Physics concepts, RD Sharma or a similar reference for Mathematics practice, and NCERT-aligned Chemistry guides — pick one reliable reference per subject rather than switching frequently.
- Mock Tests: Full-length, NTA-pattern mock tests (including the free official mock tests NTA typically releases before each session) help with time management and exam-day pressure handling.
- Official NTA Resources: The official website periodically shares mock test links, sample papers, and past official notices — these should be the first stop over third-party guesses.
[Internal Link: Mock Test]
Common Mistakes
- Registration stage: Entering Class 10/12 details inconsistently with board records; uploading photographs/signatures that don’t meet the specified size or background requirements.
- Preparation stage: Over-relying on coaching-institute syllabus lists instead of the official NTA syllabus; neglecting NCERT for Chemistry.
- Application stage: Missing the correction window; not double-checking category and PwD details before final submission.
- Exam stage: Spending too much time on a single difficult question instead of attempting all sections; guessing blindly on negative-marking sections.
- Answer-key challenge stage: Missing the challenge deadline or not providing adequate justification/reference for a challenge.
- Result stage: Confusing percentile with percentage of marks, leading to incorrect self-assessment of rank.
- Counselling stage: Missing the choice-locking deadline; misunderstanding the difference between Freeze, Float, and Slide options, leading to an unintended loss of an allotted seat.

What are the expected JEE Main 2027 exam dates?
Session 1 is expected in the last week of January 2027, and Session 2 in the first week of April 2027, based on the pattern followed in 2025 and 2026. NTA has not confirmed these dates.
Is JEE Main 2027 difficult?
Difficulty varies by shift and session and cannot be predicted in advance. Historically, Mathematics has been reported as the most time-consuming section, while Chemistry has often been considered the most scoring if NCERT is thoroughly prepared.
Who is eligible for JEE Main 2027?
Based on the pattern followed in recent years, candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing for Class 12 in 2027, with Physics, Mathematics, and a third eligible subject, are expected to be eligible. This will be confirmed only in the official 2027 bulletin.
Is there an age limit for JEE Main 2027?
Based on recent cycles, there is no upper age limit to appear for JEE Main. This has not been officially confirmed for 2027 yet.
How many times can I attempt JEE Main?
Based on the current rule, candidates can attempt JEE Main in three consecutive years from the year they first pass Class 12, which — since the exam runs in two sessions per year — allows up to six total attempts.
What is the application fee for JEE Main 2027?
Not yet announced. For reference, JEE Main 2026 fees ranged from ₹500 (SC/ST/PwD) to ₹1,000 (General male, single paper), excluding gateway charges.
What is the exam pattern for JEE Main 2027?
Not yet announced. Based on the JEE Main 2026 pattern, Paper 1 has consisted of 75 compulsory questions (25 each in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) worth 300 marks, with +4 for correct MCQ answers and −1 for incorrect ones.
Has the JEE Main syllabus changed for 2027?
Not yet announced. The syllabus has remained largely stable since a significant revision in 2024. Any changes for 2027 will be specified in the official information bulletin.
What is the JEE Main 2027 qualifying cutoff?
This cannot be known in advance — it depends on the number of candidates, paper difficulty, and NTA’s normalisation for that specific year, and is released only after the final result.
What is the difference between the JEE Main qualifying cutoff and the JoSAA admission cutoff?
The qualifying cutoff is the minimum percentile needed to be eligible for JEE Advanced; it is released by NTA. The admission/closing cutoff is the actual rank at which the last candidate got a seat in a specific institute-branch-category combination; it is released separately, round-wise, by JoSAA.
Can droppers apply for JEE Main 2027?
Yes, as long as they fall within the current attempt-eligibility window (three consecutive years from first passing Class 12), based on the rule followed in recent cycles.
Is there a minimum Class 12 percentage required to appear for JEE Main?
Based on recent cycles, NTA has not enforced a minimum Class 12 percentage to appear for the exam itself. However, a separate minimum aggregate (historically 75%, 65% for SC/ST) or top 20-percentile criterion has applied for admission to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs through JoSAA.
How many languages is JEE Main conducted in?
Based on the JEE Main 2026 pattern, the exam was conducted in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, and 11 regional languages.
Is there negative marking in JEE Main?
Yes, for MCQs: +4 for a correct answer and −1 for an incorrect one, based on recent-year patterns. Rules for numerical-value questions have varied by year — always check the specific year’s bulletin.
What documents are required for the JEE Main application?
Based on recent cycles: a recent passport-size photograph, scanned signature, and category/PwD certificate (where applicable), each meeting the format and size specifications in the official bulletin.
Can I correct my JEE Main application after submission?
NTA typically opens a one-time correction window after the registration period closes, allowing edits to most (but not all) fields.
What happens if my JEE Main fee payment fails?
If the amount is debited but the transaction fails, it is generally refunded automatically within a few working days, based on NTA’s standard policy in recent cycles.
How is the JEE Main percentile calculated?
Because the exam is held across multiple shifts with different question sets, NTA calculates a percentile score for each shift to normalise for relative difficulty, rather than ranking students purely on raw marks.
Can I appear in both Session 1 and Session 2 of JEE Main?
Yes. Candidates can appear in one or both sessions; if a candidate appears in both, the better of the two normalised scores is considered for the final All India Rank, based on the process followed in recent years.
What is the difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced?
JEE Main is the qualifying exam for admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs, and also serves as the eligibility test for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced, appeared for only by top-ranked JEE Main qualifiers (within the category-wise cutoff), decides admission to the IITs.
Who conducts JEE Main?
The National Testing Agency (NTA), under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, conducts JEE Main.
What is the JEE Main exam mode?
Computer-Based Test (CBT) for all sections, except the Drawing Test in Paper 2A (B.Arch), which is conducted offline in pen-and-paper mode, based on the pattern followed in recent years.
Is there a fee for challenging the JEE Main answer key?
Based on recent cycles, yes — a per-question fee has typically applied, refundable if the challenge is accepted and forfeited if rejected. Exact amounts for 2027 have not been announced.
How can I check my JEE Main result?
By logging in to the official NTA website using the application number and date of birth/password, once the result is declared.
Does NTA offer rechecking or re-evaluation of JEE Main answer sheets?
No. Since the exam is computer-based and computer-evaluated, there is no separate rechecking process; concerns can only be raised during the answer-key challenge window before the result is declared.
What is JoSAA and how is it related to JEE Main?
JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) conducts centralized counselling for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs based on JEE Main (and, for IITs, JEE Advanced) ranks. It is a separate process that begins after the final result.
Are private colleges also accepting JEE Main scores?
Yes, several state-level and private engineering colleges accept JEE Main scores for admission independently of the JoSAA process, in addition to their own state-level entrance exams (where applicable).
Where will the official JEE Main 2027 notification be published?
Only on the official NTA JEE Main portal — jeemain.nta.nic.in. Candidates should avoid relying on unofficial sources for the notification, application form link, or dates.
